In This Moment

Wow, it’s been awhile since my last post, and let me tell you so many things have happened! I still have a few posts in mind concerning my trip to Spain to walk the Camino de Santiago, but I’ll intersperse them with some of my “usual” posts.

Engagement Ring

1. Alex and I got engaged! The proposal was at the end of our trip to Spain. Basically what this means is my blog will have a dash of wedding to it over the next year or so. I promise not go overboard, maybe just a weekly post, but I am so excited to share the process with you!

2. We’re officially Portland residents! After a frustrating apartment hunting frenzy, and an even more frustrating wait until we could actually move in, we finally have a home after a summer of being nomads. We’re probably about 95% moved in right now, but we still have a few odds and ends to unpack which we’ve been putting off in favor of exploring this fantastic city.

Run Portland

3. I’m excited to finally be part of a running club! After running my first half marathon this past June, I decided that I want to take running more seriously. I did some research while I was still in Chicago to find a run club I thought I would enjoy, and finally decided to just go for it once we got here. But let me tell you, after a summer of no running, even after walking 500 miles across Spain, I am pretty out of shape (my lungs are anyway).

4. So what do you do? Alex has just begun his master’s program at PSU (the reason we moved out here), and last week we went to a little department gathering after the orientation for a “get to know each other” sort of thing. Everyone was excited about the upcoming school year, but were polite enough to ask the significant others about what line of work we’re in. My answer was usually sort of a stutter/shrug. It’s terrifying to move to a new city without a job lined up first, but that was my choice. What do do? I try as much as possibly to avoid that cursed word: unemployed. For now I’m doing some freelance writing work (which, let’s be honest, is what I would do full-time if I could). I have been exposed to so many different possibilities over the past few years as a working adult that now I feel like I have to ball-up all those skills and throw that at someone’s face while screaming HIRE ME!!! Do you think that would work? In the meantime, while slowly searching and applying, I’m enjoying my freelance stunt and trying to remain optimistic about the future.
